The cheapest category we run. Organic garden material only: branches, clippings, leaves, shrubs, palm fronds, weeds and turf. It goes to composting and comes out as mulch and soil conditioner, which has a buyer at the other end. That's why it's cheap. What isn't green waste, despite what people assume: soil, treated timber, fence palings, plastic pots, irrigation pipe, rocks and pavers.
The default for household clean-outs. Furniture, whitegoods, mattresses, clothing, toys, boxes and the contents of a shed. Sorted at a recovery facility, with recoverable material pulled out before the rest is landfilled.
Renovation debris: timber, plasterboard, insulation, tiles, flooring, cabinetry and packaging. Priced between household and heavy.
Concrete, brick, tile, rubble and soil combined with other materials. The dearest category, because the weight drives the disposal cost and mixed loads can't go through a clean recycling stream.

Every load is classified at the disposal facility, not on your driveway. Different materials go through different processes, and those processes cost different amounts. That cost is what your category is priced on.
Book a green waste bin, then throw in a bag of household rubbish and two fence palings. At the facility, the load is reclassified as mixed waste. You're charged the mixed rate on the full bin, and the saving you were chasing is gone.
It works the same way with a concrete bin that has timber through it, or a light building waste bin with soil in the bottom.
The fix is straightforward. Be honest at the booking stage about everything going in. If the load is genuinely mixed, book general or mixed heavy and pay the right rate from the start. If you have a clean single stream, book it as that stream and take the saving.
